ConceptED provides a unique and positive opportunity to access a relevant and meaningful education

Classes are scheduled with respect to the four dimensions of the Medicine Wheel

North - Mental

  • Individually Paced Accredited Alternate Education

East - Spiritual

  • Daily Smudging
  • Daily Learning Circles
  • Drumming, Singing, Sweats
  • Teachings of the Medicine Wheel
  • Referrals to Community Resources
  • Cultural Teachings

South - Emotional

  • Individual Education Plans with a Focus on Personal and Educational Goals
  • Lifeskills
  • One on One Counseling through the Native Healing Centre

West - Physical

  • Daily Physical Education Classes
  • Cultural Field Trip Activities Throughout the Year
  • Nutrition Program
  • Care for Our Physical Bodies

Entrance Requirements

  • Aboriginal Youth between the ages of 13 and 18
  • Committed to setting and working on attainable goals through an individual education plan
  • Motivated to attend the program everyday

ConceptED adheres to an Aboriginal philosophical approach to education. Classes are scheduled with respect to the whole person and the balance offered by the medicine wheel.

Thus spiritual (cultural), emotional, physical, and academic teachings are fundamental in the program.

Youth are nurtured to bring balance to their lives, and this is modeled through program structure, scheduling, and activities.

ConceptEd is a community partnership program worked in conjunction with - Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centres, School District #57, the Aboriginal Education Board, and the Prince George Native Friendship Centre.
