PGNFC’s Employment Centre has 2 Employment Counsellors available to assist individuals in their job search, and bridging the gap between employers and job seekers

Programs and services offered

Greeting and Initial Engagement

  • Welcome the client as they arrive.

  • Begin with a friendly conversation to understand what the client needs assistance with.

  • Explain the services available through our department, including:

    • Employment supports

    • Training opportunities

    • Program referrals (Bladerunner’s, Starting Point, Community Connector, and Smokehouse Kitchen)

Service Overview

  • Inform clients about the resources available at our Employment Centre, including:

    • Computer and internet access

    • Printing and scanning services

    • A job board with current job postings

    • Training programs

Intake Package and Needs Assessment

  • Begin the Intake Package with the client.

    • Document their Needs and Determination during the initial meeting.

    • Note the client’s background and specify whether this is a new intake or an update to an existing one.

  • Identify what the client is looking for, such as:

    • Resume updates

    • Job search assistance

    • Computer use

    • Other employment-related service

Resume Review and Employment Counselling

  • Assess whether the client’s resume is current.

    • If not, book an appointment with an Employment Counsellor for resume updating and cover letter preparation.

  • If an Employment Counsellor is unavailable:

    • Provide the client with a Resume Template to complete.

    • Request their most recent resume for reference.

    • Schedule them for the next available appointment with an Employment Counsellor.

Work Gear and Training Support

  • Clients who require work gear or training must provide a Letter of Employment or Offer Letter on company letterhead, including:

      • Start date (potential end date if short term)

      • Gear needed

      • Any training requirements for the role

      • Position

Employment Counsellor Referral

  • Refer the client to an Employment Counsellor to:

    • Create an individualized Action Plan

    • Discuss their employment goals and specific needs

    • Determine how we can best assist them in reaching those goals

Other services referral

  • Refer clients who appear need counselling to the healing center

  • Refer clients who seem to need additional food supports to the food bank during food bank hours

  • Inform clients of any other supports our centre has to offer

    • Back to school drive

    • Christmas hampers

    • CRCL (formerly PACT)

    • Daycare (waitlist)
